Sandra Gold-Wood is a British author, journalist, and social history campaigner. The Canary Girls were hundreds of thousand of women & girls who worked in British munitions factories during World War I & II. Their skin & hair would turn a bright yellow due to handling the toxic chemicals used in the making of the explosives. The 'Canary Girls Memorial Project' campaigned to have a permanent national memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to recognise their service.
