Talk by Northwich Uncovered - Northwich’s rich Roman history – romans, relics and remarkable finds

Join us for a talk by Project Leader, Giles Rigby, from local archeological group Northwich Uncovered and find out how much history there is beneath your feet - Northwich’s rich Roman history – romans, relics and remarkable finds.

The talk will explore Northwich's fascinating Roman and early medieval history through archaeology, artefacts and the landscape around us.  Looking at Roman Northwich, the importance of salt production, the settlement of Condate and how the rivers, roads and surrounding landscape helped shape the area.  What happened after the Roman period and how archaeological evidence can help us piece together the story of Northwich during the early medieval centuries.

Giles will bring along a selection of genuine local discoveries made by the Northwich Uncovered project and what they might tell us about the people who lived and worked here centuries ago.

"What started as an idea to uncover some of Northwich’s hidden history has grown into something involving volunteers, local residents, archaeologists and families, giving us the opportunity to put archaeology right at the heart of the community.”

Refreshments provided.
