Quilling - Ancient and Modern

Arts-Crafts

Arts & Crafts | Nationwide event hosted by North London District Branch

Thursday 20 November 2025 at 2.00pm

Quilling - aka Paper Filigree, Paper scrollwork, Rolled paper - is a very old paper craft dating from around the 17th Century when it was used to decorate religious artefacts and other objects.  Today it is popular as a decorative medium for greetings cards, pictures and such more.  Cathy Russell has been quilling for almost 40 years having bought a Quilling Kit at a craft fair.  She is an Accredited member of The Quilling Guild (UK) having met the high standards required to achieve this.  She will explain some of the history of Quilling followed by a demonstration of modern quilling and its uses today! She creates pictures, greetings cards and Christmas tree ornaments and uses quilling to decorate a variety of other objects as inspiration takes hold!
