Chirk Castle is a 700-year-old medieval fortress and stately home in Wrexham, Wales. Built in 1295 by Roger Mortimer for King Edward I, it is the last-completed and only continuously inhabited Edwardian fortress from that era. Now managed by the National Trust, it blends military architecture with lavish 17th- and 18th-century state rooms, plus award winning gardens.
We will combine this trip with a couple of hours in the picturesque market town of Llangollen, set on the banks of the River Dee. We will set off a bit earlier than usual to take advantage of a full day out.
