A circular route offering a pleasant walk around the Essex countryside covering field paths and woodland with a stop at St. Mary's church. In the 1800s, the Oates family lived in Gestingthorpe at a place known as the Manor of Over Hall. Their most well-known family member was Captain Lawrence Oates, who was part of Scott's expedition to the Antarctic in 1912. We will pass the hall on this 3.5 mile stroll.
After the walk we will visit The Pheasant Public House for a drink or bite to eat at your own expense. If you do not want to walk please do still join us for refreshments. We should be there by 12:00pm.
Please wear appropriate footwear.
Parking can be found at the side and behind the pub and also in a meadow across the road.
