The Golden Age of Smuggling

Join the Earl of Cottenham Branch in welcoming Anthony Smith to the Ex-Services Club in East Grinstead. Anthony is the long-standing resident curator and custodian of The Priest House, West Hoathly. He will give a brief history of free-trading, mainly in Kent and Sussex between 1700 and 1840. Explaining what they smuggled, how it was done and the consequences for the country as a whole. Refreshments will be provided.
