The mighty Abbey of St. Edmunds controlled West Suffolk for over 500 years and became one of the largest and wealthiest Benedictine monasteries in Europe. We will look at the story of the abbey, the building, the people and the influence over daily life in the town. Through to the Abbey's destruction in 1539, we look at how the Abbey formed the Bury St Edmunds we know and love today. refreshment from 10.00am and the talk will start at 10.30am
