There is very good evidence that there has been a public house on the site of The Rose & Crown since Tudor times. The building as it stands today was built in 1836 and up until 1860 it played a prominent part in the life of the local people, even being used as the county court at one time. Traditional characteristics of the property still exist, including the old archway to the courtyard, and public rooms retain original features like high ceilings and large windows looking out onto the street.
