Old Infirmary Tour

History

History, Social | Halifax White Rose District Branch

Thursday 24 October 2024 at 1.45pm

Cost: £6

Bookable | Deadline: 03/10/2024

We will take a walk around the site looking at the buildings and recalling what had been there and how they have been repurposed to become a very pleasant place to live. The management company will welcome us into the main building Edgecumbe House, where there are artefacts which are on display and help to tell the story from the building being opened in 1896. A talk will be given on how ‘free health care‘ started in Halifax in 1807 leading up to the start of the NHS in 1948. Refreshments will be served by the management company directors. We ask people to assemble at the top entrance to the site (by the lodge at the former main entrance to Casualty) at 1.45pm so we can start promptly at 2pm. The tour takes approx one and a half hours - two hours.
