Timeball Museum Visit

History

History | Canterbury District Branch

Friday 25 July 2025 at 11.30am

Cost: Admissions from £3

Standing proudly on Deal’s seafront, the Timeball Tower is a unique piece of maritime history. Built in the 19th century, it was once a crucial part of the system that helped ships in the English Channel synchronise their clocks – essential for accurate navigation at sea. The timeball still drops at 1pm each day, a nod to its original purpose.

Inside, you’ll find interactive displays and exhibits on navigation, communication, and the role Deal played in maritime history. It’s a small but fascinating museum with something for all ages – and amazing views from the top!

After our visit, why not grab some lunch at a nearby café or pub, or enjoy a stroll along the pier or beach promenade? There’s plenty to explore in Deal – from quirky shops to quiet spots to sit and watch the sea.
