**Online** Wandering in Flanders Fields

Talks & Demos | Nationwide event hosted by Flower of Kent Branch (SL)

Friday 4 October 2024 at 2.00pm

Melanie Gibson Barton tells us: The talk presents both the story of my Great Uncle George, a member of the 1914 British Expeditionary Force, who is buried just outside of Ypres (Ieper) and was one of the earliest winners of the Military Medal in 1916 in a personal account of the war along with the distinctive yet often overlooked story of the Belgians fight for the freedom of their country in the fields of Flanders during the First World War. My talk follows a themed format that provides something for everyone, provides ideas for sites to visit and, as one audience member commented, 'the story you told was so much more than mud and trenches'.
