Magical Prague, a member's review

We find out what some of our adventurous Scottish members got up to on their recent group getaway to the scenic Czech Republic city of Prague.

Last September members from West of Scotland District enjoyed a fantastic short break to the scenic city of Prague. Our hotel was centrally situated and within short walk of all the major sites including Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and the banks of the Vltava River. This perfect location made our exploring really easy and we managed to see many of the famous sights during our stay.

On the first morning some of our group decided to take one of the many interesting hop-on bus tours around the city. This also proved very useful in helping us plan the rest of our stay; highlighting places we wanted to visit and also some that we may otherwise have missed.

Some of our group particularly enjoyed the tasty local Pilsner Urquell beer which helped keep them cool and hydrated in the warm weather!

Day two brought glorious weather so we hit the tourist trail and headed to Prague Castle. Dating back to the 9th century it is believed to be the largest castle complex in the world, covering an area of around 750,000 square feet. We explored many of its magnificent towers and buildings and watched the ceremonial changing of the guard.

Later we rested our tired legs and spent some leisurely time cruising on the river and enjoying the warm sunshine.

The rich history, beautiful art, and stunning architecture make Prague an amazing place to visit, not to mention its numerous shops, restaurants, and bars. Some of our group particularly enjoyed the tasty local Pilsner Urquell beer which helped keep them cool and hydrated in the warm weather!

What’s more many of its famous landmarks such as the Charles Bridge, Tyn Church and the Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square are an impressive sight both day and night, when the city transforms with its fairytale illuminations.

A fantastic trip, we can’t wait to get back on the road again soon for another holiday!
