Holiday review: Norway Winter Cruise

Updated: 30 May 2019

The idea of cold temperatures and snow isn’t everyone’s idea of a spring holiday, but in March, seven intrepid Oddfellow travellers set sail from Dover in search of the Northern Lights, on an epic 14-night cruise.

We sailed to Norway at the best time of the year to see this country’s awe-inspiring wonders, in all their natural splendour. And it didn’t disappoint.

The Northern Lights made a brief appearance, but sadly not in all their glory! However we weren’t disheartened as there were plenty of other highlights with visits to the place where King Harald the Fairhair united Norway, the fascinating Narvik War Museum and Ice Hotel.

Sailing with Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines offered us a variety of entertainment throughout the cruise. What’s more, there’s always plenty of food available too! Some travellers opted for the extra all-inclusive drinks package.

Solo travellers need never feel alone on an Active Travel Club break. We sat together every evening for dinner, swapping stories of what we’d been up to during the day. There was always time to catch-up with each other at other times too, over a coffee or a drink in the bar!
